Marine Surveyor of Catalina 309 by Bob at Massey on 12/21/2014
Bob, from Meridian Marine Surveying was very helpful when I recently had my Catalina 309 Surveyed during a recent sale. While he worked for the buyer, he also shared his findings with me, the boat owner, so I could understand exactly what the buyer might want me to do to complete the sale. We were able to resolve several small issues. Bob was thorough and flexible since we had to take the boat 3 hours away for the haul out.
Thank you so much for surveying my 1999 Cris Craft. Your attention to detail is outstanding. The written report that I received from you was professional and informative. I would highly recommend your services. 5 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again! Kate White

I think Robert knew more about our boat than the manufacturer! Very knowledgeable.
Meridian marine spent an entire day inspecting our 41 foot twin diesel yacht. They were very thorough and pointed out many potential problem items we had no idea about. We then received a comprehensive written report which had even more detail - thank you!

When I recently purchased a used sailboat, I searched online and offline for a surveyor. When you are new to the boating world it is very easy for marine vendors to take advantage of you. I finally settled on Robert. When I first met Robert I immediately felt like a made a good choice. About a hour into the survey I knew I had made a great choice. Two words come to mind when I think about Robert and the survey he performed; knowledgeable and thorough.
Not only did Robert conduct a thorough survey of the vessel, he explained everything as he went along. The fee was worth the knowledge I gained about sailboats alone. Having a thorough and well documented survey to present to the insurance company was an added bonus.

My wife and I have been avid boaters for many years, exclusively in fresh water. Having moved to Sarasota we decided to purchase one here. Friends suggested we make sure you contact a good surveyor as you research purchasing through either a boat dealer or broker. Additionally, their advice was to make sure there wasn’t a relationship between the dealer/broker and surveyor within a certain mileage area. That advise let us to Meridian Surveying Company in Venice, Fl (servicing a large area of the Gulf Coast).
We contacted Robert to help us with the purchase of a boat in Clearwater, FL. We were fortunate in dealing with a good sales person, knowing that Meridian will be directing the survey. Most dealers/brokers want only the big issues addressed such as(engines/batteries/working accessories, etc.)
Meridian takes it much further for you as the potential owner. Robert conducted the most meticulous and methodical survey I had thought possible. Every engine diagnostic, fuse, battery function and basic working order of all boating accessories was done to our complete satisfaction.
We are pleased with our purchase knowing Meridian conducted the survey.

We hired Robert Sankey to survey our first boat and found he knows his boats well. Not only did Robert show up on time, he was waiting patiently for us to arrive.
We found Robert to be a likable, highly intelligent man. The survey was in Cape Coral, Florida, on a smoldering hot day. I mention this for the reason that Robert spent the entire day out in a hot, unsheltered storage yard looking into every nut and bolt onthat boat. After several hours went by, we asked the status of his survey, he advised us that he was “just getting started”.
At the end of the day, Robert had made a list (along with pictures) of all the issues he found with the boat. The survey took place on land and in the water.
The survey report we received from Robert was thorough and put together well.
Furthermore, once one hires Robert to do a survey, Robert will always be a phone call away… I’ve called Robert on several occasions and he always answers his phone! Last I spoke with Robert, he reminded me that if we ever need help with anything to give him acall (he considers this a part of his contract with his clients).
Note: We knew no one who could survey a boat for us. We picked Robert because he answered his phone, and we feel we made a wise decision. Robert found major mechanical issues that required repair, saving us a lot of money and headaches (and possibly our lives) down the road.
